Was not impressed.

No, I wouldn't have been impressed either

Not commenting on the vet who Pidge/Woody was referred to but on eye testing generally and the KC test results site.

Firstly unless the vet who did the eye exam is on the BVA's approved eye testing list (2008 list here (hopefully)). Then any test will not be reported back to the BVA.

Even if your dog is eye tested by a BVA panellist, if the breed is not scheduled for an eye problem (from memory there are 3 but it's only the first 2 that are reported, the 3rd is more a watch list) then they won't show on any data bases.

My spitz are all litter screened and then screened as adults by a panellist, as per the clubs recommendations, but as we are not scheduled the BVA/KC won't report the results. The results are all submitted to the KC and we have been pressing for years to either report everything or put the breed up to schedule 1 or 2 but we don't have enough positive results for this.

In Pidge's case, if woody wasn't tested by a panellist there won't be a report to the BVA - oh and eye testing by a panellist is a fixed fee, somewhere around £25 plus vat i think for a single dog this year - the report comes in multiple pages, and you should have been given a copy to go away with and take to y our own vet or for safe keeping.

Maybe its because he's on that list that Pidge thought that he was a specialist, but he does cancer screening to, I think its just to teach people, but if there is only certain vets who done it then I would really expect the receptionist to know about the testing.

But doesn't that make him a specialist then if he does eye tests for the BVA?

If he is on the list, he must be aproved to eye test.

And that being the case, if he is experienced in the job, one would expect him to know the routine involving the paperwork

I don't know depends what way you cut it really, as everything is there for students to learn like doing practical things after they have done enough of their degree, but there is nothing around his surgury about it, and he doesn't tell anybody, he is basically just a training school that gets money from the university for doing things, so hes students are having to learn from the things to so its not really he is more for that, and I know I'm not making any sense lol.

I had my 2 eye screened in February, it cost me about £70 odd as I remember, and I got a certificate showing they were clear and marked 'No hereditary Eye Diseases' with diagrams of their eyes. I think an opthalmic vet is a bit like an optician isn't it?? I mean your doctor might feel there was something wrong with your eyes and refer you to an eye doctor i.e. an opthalmic optician, and I would imagine that is the same for vets. I know that unless you go to these vets that are actually on the panel to do the tests then they are not valid, so I can't really understand how anyone can be charged £95 for ONE dog to be tested and no certificate. Also, mine had drops put in their eyes about 20 mins prior to testing, I was told to bring them early for the appointment because of this, and I don't remember reading about this on the previous thread.
I can't understand what was actually done here at all, because I know if you are testing for MRD they go through the same screening as mine went through, so what was he actually tested for?? Can't have been MRD surely??
