This can work with family. Doesn't always go down too well with guests. Often impossible for the aged, frail, infirm, disabled, etc. Training is really the only satisfactory answer.

Oh i'm gonna try the "sit" command on Luna. Problem is she gets so excited, that her hearing goes.

But if it dont work I have to do the ignoring part....

It sounds harsh but this is what a trainer told us to do. Make no eye contact give them a few seconds then say sit if they dont squirt them with a washing up liqid bottle filled with water. One quick squirt only! Tell them to sit and if they do treat them... i saw this work before my very eyes. Eventually the very sight of the bottle means sit on your bum quick

the other method is completely ignore them when they decied to walk away call them back.
it helps to teach them they get attention from you on your terms.
hard to do but it works.

I would say ignore all unwanted behaviour and praise all good behaviour, even if you are firm with a dog if it is jumping up, it is still getting a reaction, therefore just walk away

When my lot start jumping up at me it can get abit out of hand and I usually end up on my a**e. I have found that if I bring my knee up at the same time as they jump I make a barrier which they cann't get past.

This doesn't hurt them in any way (It isn't actually kneeing them in the chest) they soon learnt that jumping up got them nowhere and stopped doing it.
