Petal, Tiny JRT, DOB 01.10 – Gatwick

Petal, Tiny JRT, DOB 01.10 – Gatwick

Homing Requirements: Petal needs a home that 'gets' terriers. She can be reactive to dogs but given reassurance and time she settles. She needs a situation that gives her confidence in herself and not expecting it all to come from Petal. She will settle easily as an only dog or may even meld in with another placid dog where she can build trust and feel safe. Secure garden and terrier aware visitors i.e. exit management with no front doors left casually open!

Her Story: Petal was bouncing around through families. Her most recent acquirer didn't get terriers and took her to a pet shop and walked out disappearing. Petal was introduced to a large 'pack' house of 10 dogs, was petrified and ended up in kennels where we agreed to be there for her. Petal is now spayed, chipped, wormed and going through vax. process

Advert: Petal suits her well she is fragile; beautiful and the easiest dog to pick (up). She trust humans and is affectionate. She needs a calm routine to unpack her little suitcase into and call her own. She so needs stability and understanding. We have been delighted with her and she has begun to understand dogs don't eat her and settle with them on her walks.

Petal is a flower; a tiny Jack Russell who so needs Tender Loving Care and a 'dogs life' in the very best sense of those words. She is appealing and quite calm in the kennel - sitting neatly in her bed and trotting up to the door in hope you will come in for a cuppa or even better take her out for a stroll. Petal will delight any Jack fan ... will truly enamour them!

"Please note this dog is currently in boarding kennels and is also available for foster until a 'forever' home is found".

If you are interested in re-homing please complete our homing questionnaire so we can ensure our dogs are matched and will suit your circumstances/lifestyle.

***PLEASE NOTE: We are a rescue finding dogs their forever homes. We usually ask for a minimum donation of £150 at the time of adoption, for each dog, to help us continue helping homeless dogs***.

Delighted to report that Petal has gone into a foster home with Peter. So good to know she is not waiting out her time for her forever home to come along in kennels. Here is Peter's update:

"So, 36 hours in and clearly ... Petal is a star! No accidents, asks to go outside. Hardly makes a sound, unless there's a squirrel around, but communicates by eye contact. Keen to eat her own food but doesn't hover or beg when we're cooking or eating. Coughing very rarely and usually when on walks. Still doing "the shakey thing" but intervals getting longer.

So far Petal has been on two pre-breakfast walks along the river to the lock island; first on a short lead and then on the extender. Only slowed to a slack lead when we were half way back. She's also managed a couple of short evening outings. No wonder she's keen to get to her bed

Promise - I will take a camera when I can complete extender training! So far Petal has ignored just about all walkers, cyclists, rowers, geese and swans - and most dogs. Interested in passing Staffies and made playful moves on small terriers. Had a token "go" at a Bichon but a single "No" ended it.

To make up for no pictures from walks, here are some pictures from the Lady Petal Social Diary. On Saturday there was coffee with "Uncle Derek" from upstairs

Then there was the small matter of a bath. She was so good in the tub but drying was not so easy (shaking beyond the call of duty), but there's always a way

" ... because you're worth it!..."

Today, between walks, meals and snoozes, madam was At Home waiting for squirrels to call

and there were two ears up in welcome

Petal's wire coat had "blown" and needed stripping so I started this afternoon. I kept to the easy areas and she was remarkably good, trying to turn it into a snuggle event. A couple of very mild reminders told me that there are sensitive parts but a pause for crispy bacon bits saw us through.

Have to end with this because she has relaxed so much in such a short time - yes, a tiny star"!

[b]Petal is available for adoption. If you are interested in re-homing Petal please complete our homing questionnaire so we can ensure our dogs are matched and will suit your circumstances/lifestyle.
