I've never been bitten myself, but I have a little sister who is 14 years younger than me, when she was just over a year old and crawling, she was savaged very badly about her face by my grandmas German Shepherd who was there to guard the post office they had at the time!

Everyone felt dreadfull about the whole incident, the dog got on well with all the family, my parents were just leaving, saying their goodbyes and my sister crawled from the lounge to the kitchen withought anyone seeing her go. The dog was under the table - awoke - and went for her! She had to have stitches all down one side of her face, and all the inside of her mouth on one side was ripped open.

My mum and dad tried to persuade my nan not to have the dog pts, but my nan did anyway. My mum felt awful and blamed herself - she was a lovely dog - sleep tight Sal

Got a few examples, not just me, but Dan (son) too, but will stick to the main two (as others are minor incidents when Dharma first arrived and purely socialisation related/over exaggerated play):

First:

Briefly what happened and extent of bite/attack - I was bitten when kenneling a dog for an operation (was working as student VN).

Breed of dog: JRT

age you were ( approx): 23

whether you feel it was you or the dogs fault or just one of those things ??: Just one of those things - dog was nervy in the situation (not normally so, but it was a strange situation for her), I wasn't maybe as experienced as I am now. It did leave me with an irrational fear of JRTs which I've worked on since.

was the dog PTS: No.

Second (son Dan's experience):

Briefly what happened and extent of bite/attack: Son Dan was 2 at the time. Was supervised. Son was sat on the floor several feet away from dog, watching telly. Dog was on sofa asleep. Dog leapt off sofa, pinned son by his face and ragged him. Still unsure of what triggered things - most likely thought has been that it was "prey" related. Dog had (unknown to us) attacked child in similar manner in previous home.

Breed of dog: Greyhound, ex-racer.

age you were ( approx): Dan was 2, I was 23.

whether you feel it was you or the dogs fault or just one of those things ??: While I can't see any trigger for what happened, there had to be one. Dan had never pestered the dog, and therefore I don't feel there was any history to build up to this in our home, although who knows what the kids did (or didn't do) to him in his previous home?

was the dog PTS: No - while my son was in hospital, the rescue collected him and rehomed him. This was against my wishes (at the time I would've happily euthanised him myself), but my ex-husband dealt with it, and in a way I'm glad he wasn't. As far as I'm aware he was not rehomed to a family with children.

First time by a corgi I was about 6 and it ran up to me and bit my leg, I was doing nothing

Second by a friend of my parents mini dachshund which was a nasty grumpy dog again I was doing nothing but sitting - it was known to be unpredictable

Third was by a collie cross who I was trying to help - was at a dog show and a ridgeback lunged and had hold of the collie cross and wouldn't let go - I never blamed the collie

I was dogophobic till I was 12 and my parents bought me a puppy

I've been bitten by a GSD....still have a armful of scars to prove it.

I was at work one day (vets) when a guy came in with a GSD, he was obviously upset as he handed me the dogs lead.....didn't say anything to me. As I stood there with the lead pushed into my hand, the dog left the ground and latched itself to my arm, tearing a large piece of flesh away. Nursing staff and vets running around, someone got it off, someone took the dog away...grappling with it. It would seem that the dog had just attacked the guy Grand-daughter who had been rushed to hospital in Sutton by ambulance, too upset to say what he wanted he just handed the lead to the first person who made eye contact with him (ME) and didn't think to say what he had came in for.....He wanted the dog PTS, because of the attack earlier. Think I was in the wrong place at the wrong time, I had 42 stitches and have a lovely scar...that happened 6 years ago. Luckily never been bitten since.

OMG youngstevie, that sounds horrendous!

Yup, first one was by a St Bernard that I went up to and threw my arms around when I was a kid about 7yrs old!

Also had two accidental bites by my own dogs!! The first was my mongrel I had as a child, caught my lip as he was playing with a toy.

Also Jasper my GSD, he was going for a toy I'd thrown in the air and he caught my hand by mistake as he jumped for it. Both of these were totally unintentional bites and accidents.

I've also had my eye blacked by both Ozzy and Marius Almost identical how it happened too, both of them jumped backwards when playing and smacked their big brick-heads into my nose as i was behind them!!!

Voted yes.
By my own dogs only when separating them from fighting and the bite wasn't aimed at me.
As a groomer, only had little nips until I went to work in Cornwall where the dogs seemed terrible nasty to groomers (maybe something to do with the previous groomer don't know)
Top of the list of biters in my experience is Westies, Shih Tzu and Lhasa's, Cockers (both types) and Collies. Have also been bitten by GSD's and Springers.
Now dog on dog aggression top of the list goes to Collies, Labs, Goldies and Springers.

what happened and extent of bite/attack
Was bit a few times by Star(yep Star) he had manage to get his paw caught in his collar and was stuggling to get it free, he was becoming more panicy so when I went go help he snapped a couple of times catching my forearm, it did bruise but no blood drew.

Breed of dog
Labrador

age you were ( approx)
27ish

whether you feel it was you or the dogs fault or just one of those things ??
One of those things, he was stressed and panicing.

was the dog PTS
No, as imo there was a valid reason for him doing so

Had trouble with Storm with him growling, that was down to us being poor new owners, there was a couple of times I got nipped but nothing major to write about. We got our act together and he became the softest gentle dog, but as we knew what he was like when younger we were always extra careful. Star had also never shown any agression before or since.

Yes, just once.
The dog was my friends poodle. She was sitting on the couch and I went over to clap her and she bit my hand, a surface wound.
It wasn't the dogs fault it was my friends for teasing her relentlessly, her parents for letting the the poor dog get teased and my fault for not reading the signals. Oh and I was about 11.

Briefly what happened and extent of bite/attack :
My friend and I were walking from my house to hers (about 5 minute walk) to collect material for a school project. A drunken lady stumbled out of her house shouting and swearing (there was no-one else around !!) so my friend and I laughed (silly I know). As we passed her house, she started shouting about her dog. My friend and I both stopped thinking she needed help for her dog, and she then stated she was setting the dog on us . We protested saying we were leaving hastily, but.......too late, the dog ran and jumped on me. It took several chunks out of my left arm lower and upper, right shoulder, back, sides, inside my thighs and right hip. Aparently a bystander hit the dog with a brick, but it didn't stop until the woman called it off. Spent 2 weeks in hospital, spent many, many months strapped up, sleeping in an upright beanbag on painkillers etc. I couldnt be stitched as the holes were too big, so they were packed instead. It took a long time to heal completely and I still have over 20 visible scars and nerve damage.

Breed of dog : Rotty

age you were ( approx) : 15

whether you feel it was you or the dogs fault or just one of those things ??
Definitely the owners. The woman ordered the dog to attack, and it visually hesitated, until she odered it again, so not the dogs fault, he was reluctantly obeying orders.

was the dog PTS :
No. At the time I felt the dog shouldnt suffer and could have been rehomed with someone experienced. The Police did ask several times if I wanted to request it be PTS, but I refused.

I later discovered after the trial that the dog had attacked someone else taking their eye out, so it was ordered to be destroyed by them.

Luckily, a very patient and caring rotty owner helped rehabilitate me for nearly 2 years and Rottys are beautiful dogs and I still love them
