Have you ever been bitten by a dog (Poll)

As the title reads

with all the current news reports, and threads i thought this would be an interesting poll to get an idea of dogsey statistics.

If you could please vote and then provide the following:

Briefly what happened and extent of bite/attack
Breed of dog
age you were ( approx)
whether you feel it was you or the dogs fault or just one of those things ??
was the dog PTS

So i will start
I have never been bitten by a dog.

Briefly what happened and extent of bite/attack-

I was sitting in my in -laws lounge with them all about ten yrs ago, I reached over to pick up a newspaper and the dog who was about four metres away just launched itself at me and bit me had it not been for all the people in the room i would have been very badly mauled as it kept going back for more ! Very Scary !

Breed of dog- Great Dane Cross

age you were - 23 and 8 1/2 mths pregnant at the time !

whether you feel it was you or the dogs fault or just one of those things ?? --

The dog was a crack pot and never took to me as such,It belonged to my Brother in law who was a veterinary nurse,it had been brought in at a young age victim of a road accident the owners never came back to collect him,He was very badly injured and eventually made a full recovery but never seemed 'quite right' in the head to me, It certainly wasn't my fault but i'm not sure it was his either poor thing !

was the dog PTS-

Yes eventually,he bit three children (family members) the third bite was one to the face of a neice and they eventually stopped making excuses and pts the dog,My BIL was devastated,he had worked so hard wth the dog,he'd even starred in a veterinary magazine about respiration for dogs,i know how much he loved Milo but it was not before time that he was PTS.
As a result of this i was petrified of large breeds for some time but am ok with them now,

I've only been bitten three times

Once by a Black Labrador guide dog
Once by a Beardie
Once by a GSD who was never trained or socialized for the six months he lived with !

Only one bite in each case

I was bitten my our cross breed bitch "Lady when i was about 4yrs old. I was bitten on the wrist and ended up in hospital, she nearly hit an artery. I have a tiny scar but nothing major. It was my own fault as she was on the couch and i jumped on her.

Another time i was cornered by an Alsation, but luckily the owner turned up. (this dog was aways loose in the area and it often intimidated people) i was around 13/14 yrs old.

I have opted for severly attacked though it is up to others to determine whhat their own perception of severely attacked is....

at the age of 12 I was attacked by a family pet collie who was in training to be a guide dog. I firmly believe and my scars are testament to the fact that if my mum had not intervened I would probably be dead.

I was sitting in the living room the dog was on the floor I picked up the remote control and the next thing I remember was him lungeing towards me he grabbed my mouth (both lips actually biting straight through my top lip, then released and went for my left cheek then released and went for my throat by which point my screams had brought my mum from the kitchen and she grabbed him and was bitten in process
The attack resulted in 67 stitches and skin grafts.(which is why I consider it to be serious)

The dog was PTS he had previously shown aggression to the vet on more than one occasion. I am still unsure that this was the right decision but I at 12 had no say. I believe I should probably not have been left unsupervised but having said that I in no way provoked him, he had been well socialised. Who knows what he felt on that day

I've been nipped several time and bitten to draw blood twice, the first time was when I was about 14, my mum had a Yorkie and it was being attacked by another dog, and the other owner couldn't do anything to stop her dog so I went in parted them the best I could, picked Suzie up, the other dog was still going crazy at her, and she (Suzie) sunk her teeth into my thumb, she was just terrified at the time, it wasn't vicious toward me.

The second time, I was playing with my old BC, and things got a bit rought, he lunged forward to grab the ball I had in my hand, I moved and he got my hand instead, not his fault but I still have the scars

Earlier this year at training, there was another BC who was very dominant, the owners hadn't had him long, but somehow he had taken a dislike to Jack, and they got into a fight, both Chris and the other owner went in to seperate them, and they both got bitten, the bites wern't directed at them, they just happened to get in the way, and still to this day, they don't know which dog bit who, but we all ended up in casualty afterwards, much to the amusements of the nurses, who found it funny that this had happened at Obedience

I've been bitten a few times times, once a long while ago (I was about 17) when I was helping a friend who's dog had just had a run in with a hegdehog and came off worse than the hedgehog did in the end but had the critter in his gob and wouldn't let go so I got bitten whilst freeing the hedgehog.

Another time is when I used to have a pal (who I haven't seen for a few years now, long story but she wanted to mate her shih tzu to my Dusty (dachshie) and we fell out bigtime). I'd known her since I was 11 and she had 3 JRT's a JRTxYorkie and a Shih Tzu and they were never walked, never socialised, never left the house and they had the tiniest slabbed garden, it was awful. Anyway, they would just launch on whoever came into the house, especially the eldest dog. The shih tzu and the cross was ok (not 'normal', but ok), 1 of the JRT's was tolerable and one a little worse but still tolerable if you had a little knowledge about dog behaviour, but the eldest also had terrible skin conditions and she was manic the poor thing. Anyway had a couple of incidents from them during the time I was her friend as you can probably imagine. Even they (the owners) got bit on a weekly basis at least. Never put me off the breed though as it was so obviously the way they were kept. I did try and help and offer to talk them for walks e.t.c but her mum wouldn't let me take her 'babies' away from the house.

Another time which was quite bad was when I was about 15 or 16 and I took Sadie to my pals house, she had a GSD who was hardly walked e.t.c, they hadn't had her from a pup and she had aggressive problems when they got her (towards dogs) so they didn't dare walk her. Anyway, I was waiting outside with Sadie for my friend to get her shoes on and the GSD was inside and when my pal came out the dog managed to push her out of the way and get to Sadie and what ensued was one of the worse fights i'd ever seen. Sadie wouldn't fight back for the first few minutes 'til the GSD punctured her skin then she tore into her and I and a neighbour (18 year old lad) had to wrestle both dogs off each other and we both got bitten. My friends mum (a tiny woman, about 4ft 10 if that) did not dare interviene and her husband was at work so that is why the neighbour had to help us. Lucky he saw us really! Instinct just kicked in for me and I was just interested in protecting my own dog. Sadie had a few stitches, no idea about the other dog as I never asked but she did require a vet visit. She wasn't put down. When I think back i'm really lucky I didn't get severely hurt. Just a few puncture wounds, big bruises and a jab in A&E.

The rest just severe bruising but only when splitting dogs up in a fight (not mine) which I have done a couple of times. I've had more damage done by cats tbh.

Only once was from one of my own dogs and it was Charlie (I know you all sat there thinking Maddy!). He and Maddy were having a bit of a spat over something, I can't quite remember what but probably food and I got bitten on the thigh when I stuck my leg in to split them up but it was accidental on his part and he was sooooo sorry as soon as he realised what he'd done bless him! But was a huge bruise and swelling and agony to bend my leg, I had a bit of a limp going on for a few for days. I was 22 then.

None of the dogs were PTS and none has ever put me off dogs or certain breeds. I still feel like i've forgotten something.
