Strange season

When my bitch reaches the mating stage in her season she whimpers and licks her privates the vet cant seem to have any idea why ive touched her round that area and she still lifts her tail and displays her private part can you tell me what might be wrong

I would say she isn't quite ready ...maybe even a day or so .....the vulva even on mating day can be tender ...what breed and how old is she ?

Think its a cocker Inca, and it does sound like she not quite ready, has sh been mated before?

What day is she on? some do feel very sensitive around that area when in season and especially when they are ready for mating.

Just out of curiosity, how long are they in heat for? and what days are they fertile between? Keena started her first season on new years day and is still in now (Jan 21st) I don't know much about it all. How do you know they are definitly finished so that you know when they are safe around male dogs again? I mean I know the obvious sign would be that they arn't bleeding anymore but maybe that could slow down and you could think they are finished when they arn't yet.

Yours is obviously licking it's self to keep clean, the whimpering well I dunno maybe she just mithers a bit because she doesn't understand it all. Is she still young?

Hope this helps a little, it's a season pattern. (Teagan 'bled' for 15 days, so it was at the 'longer' end of pro-oestrus)

Pro-oestrus - lasts approx 9 days (range 3-16 days) - Oestrogen levels are high, vulva swells, blood discharge, 'flirting' but repulses male.

Oestrus - lasts approx 9 days (range 4-12 days)- Oestrogen levels are low, Accepts male, blood discharge slows/stops, 'straw' colour fluid.

Met Oestrus - Can last for 60 days, average is 30 days - females will repulse male, progesterone levels high, if pregnant this is gestation.

Anoestrus - 4 months - no hormone activity.
