Just been to see a dog!!! So Annoyed!

Just need to rant,

I contacted a rescue centre regarding their dogs and in particular a dog on their website we really liked the look of. We asked how he was with kids, cats and dogs and explained why it waas sooo so important for us to rehome a well socialised older dog. This was a must due to visiting children, and visiting family members regulary with cats and dogs and wanting to take our dog with us. They gave him the thumbs up, said he was excellant with all. We arranged to go today and told them we were coming a long way to see this particular dog - explained we didnt have a car and it was going to take 2 1/2 hours min to reach them. 3 hours later we were taken to his kennel. Sign on the door: Dogs: NO, Cats: UNKNOWN, Children: Teenager +.

We were gutted. We asked the owner and they said, "no idea about cats, Bad with other dogs and no children" what was the point in them lying to us?? We left at 11am this morning and have only got back after catching 2 buses, 4 trains and 2 taxis!!!!! I;m furious!!! I just dont get it?

Awful, sorry you had to go through that, don't give up though, there are so many wonderful dogs in rescue that desperately need homes. xx

Sorry you had a wasted (and expensive no doubt, journey) Have you looked on the Rescue pages here or on "dogpages" - Are you after a specific breed, the Dog Monthly mag. has a list at the back of rehoming centres and breed rescue.and the Kennel Club also has a list of breed rescue co-ordinators. Sorry you had that experience. Are there any rescue groups near that foster their dogs in homes prior to rehoming. They may have a better idea of the socialization of their dogs.

That's terrible, and a complete waste of everyone's time .

Have you tried a breed rescue? They quite often have dogs in foster homes, where they be can assessed for things like cats, dogs and children. Just a thought, lots of luck in your search

How awful for you, particularly as you have no transport and had such a long and probably expensive journey. I agree that it might be a good idea to contact a breed rescue, and see how you get on there.

That was def not a nice situation to put you through.and in my opinion was scmpletely avoidable had they been honest bout the dog in the first place. Please don't let it put you off rescuing all rescues are not like that one. As other have said you could try a breed rescue. Good luck the right dog is out there somewhere just waiting for you. Do keep us posted.

Grrrrrrr I'd be steamin'!!!!! I would have asked to see the person I actually spoke to on the telephone about it all, and then I would have gone above their head and got them into serious trouble! It's just not on, you've taken the totally sensible route, asked all the necessary questions prior to your visit so that you find the right dog for you, and it's all gone pete tong!!! Someone should be held responsible!!! They should go out of their way to have a system in place, right by the telephone, so that they have all the CORRECT details of every dog in their care to answer any questions over the phone shouldn't they!!!??? Even a pc perhaps!!!

One thing I will say though, if it was Dog's Trust, when I last went there, each and every dog had a sign above it's kennel stating exactly what your dog had, i.e. No cats, no children, and no other dogs???!!! How come then, all the back panels of the kennels were all open, so that all the dogs were socialising together running along the back walkway??????????Hmmmmmm, don't get on with other dogs????? They were all playing quite happily when I saw them? What's going on there then??

I feel for you, what a complete and utter waste of time that was. Try another rescue, please don't be put off by their incompetence!!!
