Winnie update

Just back from seeing an orthopedic specialist.

The news is not great, it is looking like either fusing the leg or amputation, at the moment he is recommending amputation but he does want her to have a CT scan to see if there is anything else that can be done.

Unfortunately, the CT scan and the surgery is just something I can not afford (her treatment is up to £480 at the moment, and ct scan and surgery will be £1200).

I did have an offer from valgrays to take her in, but they are not responding to my emails so I'm assuming they are not interested now :s

Going to try and find a rescue that can take her in and give her the treatment that she needs as I just simply cannot afford it.

Aw what a shame

I hope you have luck finding a rescue to take her or manage to find a way to raise some money for her surgery She is so lucky that you took her in though.. can you imagine her being sold to be bred again and again with her leg in that condition? Shocking. Have you told the owners the amount of treatment she is requiring?

I havent been in touch with her previos owners, the RSPCA advised me not to contact them as there is an ongoing investigation.

Ah ok thats fair enough.. If you do hear from them I'm happy to help with transport if needed as the rescue is not too far from me.
Are the RSPCA unable to help, or any other organisation like PDSA, blue cross etc?

Layla, hypothetical question at the moment, but would you consider letting her go to a family home if the treatment was garanteed to be done for her?
Does she get on okay with your other dogs?

I told my dad about her at the weekend and her story really touched him.

Good luck with what you decide.
If this were my dog I would probably go ahead with the amputation. Dogs can manage with 3 legs and there is always going to be a problem with the injured leg isn`t there? Sometimes you have to be practical IMO.
I was once told to get an MRI for one dog for £2000 and refused it. I didn`t see the point in using up all the Insurance on a diagnosis and having no money for treatment. I had X-rays done (£150) and got a diagnosis that way.
But it`s your decision. At least talk to your vet about options?

Just wrote a long reply about how no rescue wanting to get involved....
just had a call back from fostbc rescue in yorks and they are going to take her and get her treatment sorted, the lady was brilliant, said they were full but that she would make room in her own house for her.
