Sciatica Help Needed

Anyone on this forum suffer from Sciatica. My OH does and at the moment is going through a bad bout with it, he is doing everything that has been told to him from the Doctor but I can not get any sleep because of him.
I don't know which way to turn, he's diabetic too and bless him since November he's lost almost 3 stone he needed to as well as Patrick 'lives to eat' so being diagnosed with Diabetes back then came as no surprise to me however I am coping perfectly with that and all the change of diet (have joined him to support him) but I can NOT cope with his back problem I must sound a real B***h, but he's twisting and turning all night. I tried going to bed before him to no avail, I've tried going to bed after him to no avail, I rubbed every imaginable product on his lower back, he's had numerous pain-killers, we've done all the exercises that the back specialist have told him to do, he does light exercise when walking the dogs, ANYONE OUT THERE WITH SUGGESTIONS......at the moment I feel like murdering him due to lack of sleep.
He (in my opinion) has the wrong job, he's a bus driver, so he's sitting all day (which he says helps ) and left to him he'd sit all evening too, once home, but if this really helps him, it certainly doesn't when he goes to bed.
All the medical advice has been to exercise too, but he needs alot of pushing to do the programme he's been given......sorry Patrick is lazy by nature, when it comes to excerise. I understand that there is no miracle cure, but I wondered if anyone had found something or knows of something that helps.
I can not go into another bedroom, as the kids have them, and we recently bought one of those machines to get rid of pain...which hasn't...........I'm at a loss what to do, I've been having dizzy spells myself, but I honestly feel it's because I can not get a good nights sleep. Please Help

Poor Patrick, and poor you. I suffer as well, and go through "ouching" when I move or try to turn over in the night. I'm on Co-Codamol for general pain, and Tramadol for when it gets really bad. Fortunately, I've not had a really bad bout for 18 months, and Baz and I sleep in separate rooms anyway, 'cos I snore......
Have you tried a natural sleep remedy when you go to bed earlier that Patrick? It's the only thing I can think of, short of a steralised mallet.

Hugs hon x0x

My OH suffers with his back, he's a bus driver too

I agree with the sitting down all day theory, my dad has always suffered with his back, many a time when we were kids he has been stuck, flat on his back, ended up with arthritis but his doc has always told him to keep moving as much as possible and NOT to sit for too long but that may be for the arthritis so may be different.

I dont live with my OH anymore, so dont have the sleepless problem but i agree with Vicki, maybe trying some sleeping tablets (herbal ones) and going to bed first.

I sympathise as i used to be kept awake by my OH's snoring EVERY night so i know how you feel

Good luck i hope you get something sorted

At the moment I swear by those Ibuprofen gel stick-ons, not the deep heat belts with the round bits in it, but the gel pads that stick on the painful part. Try and get some of those for him coz that's the only way I'm getting any sleep at the moment with mine. I had it in my left hip/back and leg since Christmas, it went a few days ago, but then yesterday I did something really stupid (lifting great big bags of logs for my garden into the shed! )with my right hand, and now I've done in the right hand side, so it looks like I'm going to have to go through it all over again.

It really is the most painful thing when you've annoyed your sciatic nerve, there's nothing quite like it, so he has my deepest sympathy, and you too Vicki!

Failing that, if it's really bad, I've always found an osteopath to be quite helpful with their deep massaging and ultrasound machines, at least you get some relief be it for a short while!

I bought one of those tens machines from Boots for my mum, she never used it, so I might just dig that out of it's box today and give that a whirl on my new affected side, and my neck coz I've slept funny and can't turn my head sideways today either! Oh the joys of getting old!!!

Give him a hug from me coz I know what he's going through - a gentle one though!

Depends if hubby is up for trying something other than a doctor.
My husband went to see an osteopath, and the elbow in the bottom technique worked wonders.
Also he told us a slow marching movement ( on the spot) stretches and releases the muscles which can pinch.
Really you need to go to one and be shown how to do it properly - but truthfully well worth the money.

Girl if I was closer I'd treat him for you - got a good rate with sciatica - otherwise try looking for an Advanced Reflexologist (Art Reg'd) Good thing is we don't have to touch your back to get those muscles to relax.
