Dog suicides

I read this in one of the dog papers this weekend- anyone seen it?

Five dogs have jumped to their deaths in the past six months at the bridge in Overtoun House, Dumbarton according to locals. The most recent was 2 weeks ago when an owner was unable to stop his dog leaping over a parapet for no apparent reason and falling 40 feet to its death.
The bridge over a tributary of the Clyde, lies within the grounds of Overtoun House, an A listed baronial building built in 1863 currently run as a Christian centre.
It was the scene of a family tragedy in 1994 when Kevin moy threw his 2 week old son to his death believeing him to be the Anti Christ .
Doreen Grahm of SSPCA says that dogs do not commit suicide- they have a strong fight or flight response.

It is very weird for five dogs to have jumped at the same spot. From photographs at the bridge it would appear that the tree canopy rises above the bridge and it may cause some sort of confusion to the animal, which thinks it will be jumping onto something solid

Spooky

That is so strange, the dogs must be getting an optical illusion that there is ground there when there isn't. Weird.

Heard an article about this on the radio.
They more or less said there is an illusion there - poor woofs just think they're jumping onto grass and they fall..............
