Becoming a Lady..? Is 5 months too young to start her first heat?

Bodhi is coming up to 5 months.

As far as I knew, this is too young to start her first heat (although, I'm sure like humans, it can vary).

When we were at the park yesterday, there were some dogs who were VERY interested in my little girl. Granted, one was a 'just mature' dog, who was having an appointment with Mr Vet to fix his problem this week!

It was more than a passing interest though, it was a 'I want to FOLLOW you' interest.

Are there any tell-tail signs of heat - as yet there is nothing unusual other than she was a bit restless last night. That's it though..!

I think I know what to look out for, the obvious signs - correct me if I'm wrong! Nipples size, discharge, sulky...

Are there any less obvious signs??

Apparently, she may no grow as big, but it reduces the risk of mammary cancer, or so I hear.....

Hi About six months of age is the time for a first season thought it can vary considerably , some bitches don't have a season until after they are a year old .Before some bitches come is season they give of a scent in their urine that can attract dogs, as the season nears the vulva will start to swell, your girl may also go off her food and become moody
If you are going to spay it should not be done just before or immediately following a season, talk to your vet about it

i had shadow done 6 months on the dot. Couldnt wait to get it done, couldnt stand the thought of her going into heat. Yuck!

My girls get awful PMT for about 6 weeks before, other than that nothing obvious, Lily didn't give any signs at all, she was 9 months.
