Wolf V Bison - BBC Frozen Planet

I'm loving the series as whole but tonight's episode was amazing.

Did anybody see the footage of the battle between the Wolf and the Bison ?

Yes, I just saw it. It was amazing! I found it upsetting when the wolf and bison stood side by side, panting after the battle, almost seeming to stand together, then the wolf went for it again to inflict a mortal wound.

I love wolves and I know these ones in particular had to eat - especially in those conditions - but, well, just shocking and wow!

It was fairly brutal for both parties involved wasn't it but that's nature I guess.

It was excellent footage showing how both species could give the other a run for its money, rare for a wolf to be doing this alone though.

I think the pack kind of cleared off with the rest of the bison leaving the two wolves to deal with the single bison. The male wolf pretty much gave up and left her to it didn't he.

All of us were sat her in awe.

The bit where they were both exhausted, the bison cradling the wolf under it's chin whilst the wolf just stood there trying to get some energy.......so moving.

And at the end of the programme where they showed the bison just lying there waiting to die with a mortal wound......and the exhausted wolf curling up in the snow to rest and wait just feet away.

Very sad for both.....but nature's way.

That's fair enough - not everybody likes to see this kind of thing.

Yes - the 'making of' bit at the end made the whole thing just that bit more real.

Them both lying in the snow was such a powerful image.

Hats off to the BBC - another moment I'll always remember.

God it was amazing, you know, you see any other wildlife program now and it always looks so naff in comparison!

I had to hide behind my hands a few times and shed a tear at the fight but it was amazing, like you say, so powerful! And that cameraman being so close as shown in the 'freeze frame' bit at the end, wow, i think i would have passed out with awe! For it to go on so long too.. wow.

(the dogs enjoyed that part of the program the most too )
