Can my puppy meet other dogs before its vaccinations

I'm getting my Lhasa apso puppy soon, my gran has 2 dogs, a shih tzu and a papillon. They are both vaccinated, neutered etc and are sociable dogs. I'm wondering if anyone can tell me if they can meet, also how old do they start getting vaccinations at?! I have had dogs but not a puppy! Thanks

If the other dogs are up to date with their vaccinations and you know that they are healthy then I would let the meet.

First vaccination will be around the 8 week mark, and they are not fully protected until the second one.

To be honest I would rather be safe than sorry and would not risk socialisation with any other dogs until after the second jab.

Enjoy that puppy!!!!

Depends

My pups come home at 8 weeks ready for 1st vaccinations and obviously meet my other dogs.

Mij came home recently to 6 year old Breagh (up to date with boosters) and Skye aged 15 who hasn't had a booster since he was about 13.

That was in my own garden though where no other dogs visit. he wasn't 'walked' till the required period after 2nd vaccs.

Meeting dogs that are up to date is one thing but not where every other dog in the world hangs out.

'the risk of a dog dying because of infection with distemper or parvo disease is far less than the much higher risk of a dog dying (euthanasia) because of a behavior problem.'

Heres a link to the full article. http://www.apdt.com/petowners/articl...rsonLetter.pdf

Personally I take puppies out from one week after their first vaccination for carry walks and to meet friends/family dogs and to puppy socialisation classes.

Remus (our 7 month old bull lurcher puppy) didn't have his first vaccination intil 12 weeks as he was kept in an abandoned caravan. The rescue place that took him took straight our on walks as they felt, rightly so I think, that it was more important for him to experience as much socialisation as possible and that he had probably been exposed to a lot of things he shouldn't have.

Hi it depends if the others are up to date on there vaccination, but the breeder should have given your puppy its first lot and you will get a card,so that you can take it to your vet to finish the course Gemini54

Often puppy classes will take on puppies after their first vaccianation. So that is worth investigating.

Not all vaccines are compatible, so it may be a case of finding a vet who uses the same or compatible vaccines, or have the whole course again.
