Ox heart

Am thinking about getting a ox heart for Jin. Anyone fed this to their dogs? What did you/they think?

You cannot always get it, in the supermarket it is usually cut up for you unlike lamb hearts.

I feed it.

I got a whole one through the butcher and it was about the size of a basketball! I cut it up and it literally last me months! Cain absolutely loves it though, he gets it once a week.

Does anyone know if there is much nutritional difference between different kinds of heart e.g. ox, lamb, pig? I make an effort to feed a variety of liver and kidneys but I only feed ox heart (although he gets a bit of pig heart in the pig pluck). Wondered if it was worth making the effort to get different kinds or not?

I get it already cut up, cheaper than lamb heart and Teg seems to like it just as much.

Ox heart [and all offal] is very expensive here and I have to order one when I want it. For myself! I am still waiting for another one and will try Pereg with some.

I have always trimmed all the large tubing [arteries and veins] and binned them, but now Pereg is part fed on raw, I should imagine that I could mince them and give to her.

One thing about ox heart is the fat. You can trim it off a fresh heart and render it down to make rather nice [but calorific] dripping!

This is what I was going to do. The butcher I get bones off has them, and so cheap (£3). It is right next to an abbortoire so they get all sorts. I might ask if he can chop it for me. I wonder what other offal I could get.....
