Jan Fennell - Dog Listener

Sorry for two questions in quick succession!

This is also a serious one, as I'm about to fork out a fair few quid on a visit from a 'dog listener', and some of you guys may well have come across this kind of dog rehabilitation before.

As I understand it, Jan Fennell developed a style of dog rehabilitation called the Amichein Bonding(?) method, where after a visit to your home, the dog is much more at ease and wants to cooperate with its owner, ad life becomes much more balanced for you and the dog (Cesar Milan springs immediately to mind).

This is not dog training in the sense that you teach the dog to sit, stay, wait, come etc. This a far deeper bonding between you and your dog where the dog views you unconditionally as pack leader.

Before I splash out £150 on my consultation, does anybody have anything to say?

You can see the main Dog Listener website HERE

With regards to Jan Fennel the one thing I will say is that many people found their dogs were more managable afterwards as they seemed depressed and just following commands like a Zombie.

Persoanlly I would rather have a naughty dog full of life, than a depressed one !

Hi Hammer I am not sure what the problem is with your dog but if a behaviourist is required I would go to your vet and get a referral to a good behaviourist belonging to a recognised body.

Where to find a Trainer ..

..and a Behaviourists..

I am a great fan of Jan Fennell and her methods, and have found her books easy to follow. If you buy the main two, the original "Dog Listener" and the 30 day (I think - may be 60 days, can't remember) training plan, you should be able to sort it out without forking out a huge amount of money. IMO it's what you do every day as part of a regime that is more valuable than paying someone for a chat/one day session.
Of course, if you are not comfortable with a book for whatever reason, go for someone who is at least qualified as stated above.
Dog behavourists ........ I think this is a fairly new thing. Trendy? Most good dog trainers would be just as effective, IMO, and not rip you off.
