OBI ILL AGAIN!! syringomyelia

Hi

It seems that every time im on here, OBI is poorly...but yet again we are having problems with my little lord fontleroy.
Obi has been ithing in one area for a while, and we have used flea drops, but he continued toitch in the one space, so we have taken him to the vets who said he may have Syringomyelia????
which means fluid on the spine ???
He suggests we get a MRI??
Does anyone know how much this would cost as the vet asked if we had him insured and who with!!!! OBI is insured, with The royal bak of scotland.... but we would like to know how nuch a MRI Scan would cost.

Poor Obi......he does not appear in pain and seems to enjoy himself, and sleeps all night without crying!!!!! he is a little darling....my little angel !!

Syringohydromyelia or Syringomyelia is caused by a malformation of the back of the skull where the spinal cord enters the skull. This allows the cerebellum to herniate out & this in turn stops the cerebral fluid produced by the brain from circulating properly

There are several symptoms & an affected dog may present none, one two or more or all of them Have a look at the link above & this one which is the Cavalier Club Website & SHM/SM comes under the health links

My Loukar has SHM but has no symptoms(touch wood)to date. His father had SHM & was PTS before he was 3, Loukar is 4 next month. His father has a severe form. It is genetic & if it is confirmed you should advise the breeder of Obi

On the Cavalier site there are the details of the low cost(around £200) MRI scan that is part of the research into SHM

Depending where you live there are 4 MRI scanners in England. We went to Geoff Skerritt at Chester. Geoff is a Neurologist & an expert/specialist He's lovely & explains thing in layman's terms

PM me if you want

I am so so sorry to hear this Jodee has posted all the info above
SM is something every cavalier owner and breeder dreads once again very sorry to hear and you must let the breeder know as soon as you get the results its important that the breeding lines are looked into in more detail

hugs to obi and to you xxx

thank you sooo much...the vet seemed hesitant, and I was very concerned....as obi seems so happy and playful...other than this itch he has.....I am so worried about him i love him sooooo much...unfortunatley, obi was our first dog and it seems that we were done over by the guy we brought him from.....he was from wales and he delivered him to our house...we now know better and that he was most likely a puppy farmer!!!!
I have tried his line.....but no answer....that was the first time obi had problems.....but obi got over that...and now I will help him get over this....

Have you got any contact numbers for these research people ???

Thank you so much for your help!!! I really appreciate it.
