Fitting air con to cars...Help please. (Helena?)

Hello all,

Unfortunately my car doesn't have air con, and I would love to have it.

Does anyone know if it can be fitted? Would Kwik-Fit etc be able to do it? Is it at all possible?

Helena, might your Dave know? Dogsey's mechanic!

Thanks very much.

Never heard of this being done, Nic.

It would put up fuel consumption considerably and reduce the power too if you did get it done.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

Did a google and apparently it can be done by getting a heating unit from a scrapped car of same make and model that has the air con. Then the whole thing needs to be swopped. Is very difficult and £. Best advice was to trade car in for one ith it!

Thanks, Enid. Not to worry! It was just a thought.

But yes, you're right, it would just zap away the petrol and power anyway!

Yeah, that's basically what I've found online too, Rach. Thing is, I don't actually want to change my car at the moment. Oh well, looks like I'm going to have to do without at the moment!

Me too
When I do put it on I can hear the engine change as it drinks the petrol!

Just asked Dave for you. He said it's not cost effective, i.e. it would cost you about £1,000 to get somebody to do it (a proper company who specialises in repairing them say), so you'd be far better off just selling your current car and buying the same model with air con in it. Btw, he said he wouldn't get Kwik Fit to fit anything - EVER! Lol! Hope that helps!

Yep, what H said!! I asked Rich and he said technically yes it can be done, but its a massive job and it would be sooooo expensive.....he also said exactly same re kwik fit

Thanks all, thanks Helena.

Guess I'll just have to live with no air con then!
