Advise please. Is his ear alright??

Hi All,

I am getting worried about my 5 month old JRT. His ears are usually perky and stand straight up but last night his left ear was limp and didnt even move when he got excited like they usually do. I have taken a photo so you can see what i mean.

Is this normal or should i be worried? It doesnt seem to bother him and there isnt a blockage in the ear or anything.

Any advise would be most appreciated. Thanks

I know that ears tend to 'fly' when dogs are teething.
I wouldn't worry

Sure his ears will be just fine

When my lot were small their ears were all over the place. Harvey would make us laugh he's run down the garden with his perfect little staffy ears and come back looking like a Labrador

Stupid question - why are dogs ears affected when they ar teething??

Max's ears are all over the place, even though he's done teething...

I think while the adult teeth are forming it leaches all the calcium out of any part of the body that can do without it, so the cartilage in the ears goes crazeeeee! Just ask Bongo

Don't worry no problem, think the reason is the nerves of the face are designed to shut down when teething to minimise on the pain, the ears are controlled by the nerves of the face and all prick eared animals go through a 'strange' ear stage when they are teething. It is only a guess but there seems to be a connection because the dogs that suffer the most when teething are the ones that do not loose the ear carriage or the ones who lose it less.
