Former Dog Owner, Future Dog Owner

Hello, folks.
I've always been a friend of dogs, and am happiest when they are part of my life. I've owned 3, and been a kennel attendant for significant spells. When I'm at a party, I often spend as much time with the dogs as with the hosts. Jack London always spoke to me at some core level. As a kid I often made an effort to connect with stray dogs, and, well, I haven't really stopped. I come looking for advice and knowledge.

Hello.

Hello
Ive never had a dog before and always seen myself as a cat person until a couple of weeks ago when I found one who I connected with. So im not the one to give the best advice here but ...
My advice would be if this is merely for companionship you rescue a dog you find you connect with and choose a size or breed of dog which suits your lifestyle
Welcome to the forum ive had some good advice from people here and its a good place to get answers

The truth is, I'm not looking for a dog now...just thinking ahead to what I'll be doing, and how I'll be living, when next I'll be open to a dog. At the moment I'm traveling, and working on farms. When I do settle (probably a year or so from now) I'll be working toward a small rural property. I'll want to have a variety of livestock and a generally freerange way of doing things. My thoughts at the moment are that I'll need a flock guardian to stay with a varied population of poultry, goats, maybe a couple cows, etc. and a more active companion/herding dog to accompany me between field and house. Anyhow, this is just an introduction. I'll construct a thread to address my myriad questions soon.
