Ian - I had no idea what was causing your problems and I can only say that you are a very brave man and your plight puts my 'worries' in perspective. I'm not sure that I could cope as well as you have. I'm really sorry you are having such a cr*p time. It isn't fair and I completely understand that there are times that you feel despair.

But please try to get through it, however hard. You have come so far. If a respite home is what is necessary to give you a (well-earned) break then maybe think about taking it and face whatever comes next as it comes. Sometimes a rest does wonders.

I have no magic words, I can only let you know that I have the highest regard for you. Don't be lonely, we are here and take up Shadow Boxer's wonderful offer of company if you can't sleep ...

Really sorry to hear your problems Ian, Diabetes can be a bi**h to deal with. Try and keep your chin up and that leg too. Invest in a poofee (sp?), even if you're watching telly! And remember Blackie is always there for you!

Don`t know if this will help, probably not but you never know, might be worth mentioning to drs.
Manuka honey dressings is used in hospitals worldwide & one of the things is for people with diabetes that have skin problems, helps promote healing. This snippet is from bbc news.
*Nurse practitioner Julie Betts has successfully used honey to treat leg ulcers and pressure sores. And she says it helps healing after surgery - particularly for diabetic patients.
"It has an anti-inflammatory effect as well, so if I want to do several things apart from actually controlling the bacteria in that wound, then that's when I'll use honey." *

Thanks for the link, it looks very interesting, I'm going to print part of it off for when I go to see the surgeon on Friday, I may be able to get him to look into it, although knowing the NHS it will be too expensive or something.

Hi Ian, if you think it`ll help you fight for it. I researcged it before I went to the hospital my sis was in & badgered her dr daily till she finally looked it up herself & said yes, they would be suitable for my her
I used to have articles about hossies it was researched at in UK but on old pc not this new one, Aintree was one of them. I do know you can buy the dressings privately tho. Anyway see what docs say, hope they help
