Zuki has started making some 'choking noises' (elongated soft palate?)

Zuki has started making some choking noises, almost like she is gonna be sick but its more raspier, like she cant breath, then she stops a minute later she starts again, this is just started last ten minutes, dont wanna pay for out of hours vet if its not serious?

Is she sort of "snorting" bit like a pig ? If she is it could simply be her soft palate & can be stopped by very gently blocking her nose & getting her to breath through her mouth. My cavaliers often do this

How long do I hold it for because she is refusing to breathe through her mouth?

Literally seconds I usually say to my boys "breath" & pop a finger gently into their mouths to open it. I put my finger tips over their nostrils to close the nose BTW

Glad it has worked & it's nothing to worry about

It's caused by the soft palate being a bit longer than norm & stopping them breathing normally. It can be very worrying if you haven't seen it before

Thank you so much, I have never seen it before and must say I almost went running straight to the vet who would have charged me a small fortune for something I now know how to deal with myself.

Honestly though when I held her nostrils she looked at me like I was trying to kill her, so I instead popped my mouth over her nose and she breathed through her mouth whilst trying to lick me but it seems to have worked

LOLOL as long as it works it doesn't matter how you get her to breath through her mouth as long as no one saw you
