Police Puppy Walkers

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-kent-16372905

Dog walkers are being sought by Kent Police to help the force prepare puppies for a career in policing.

Kent Police said help was needed with a number of puppies aged between eight weeks and a year.

Dog enthusiasts who want to help need to be at home most of the day and would also have to have a home check.

Insp Preston Chalk said puppies developed best when brought up within families, because they could socialise in a variety of different conditions.

He said puppy walkers were asked to expose the animals to everyday sounds, smells and experiences so their confidence developed, and although the task could be challenging, requiring great time and attention, it was also "immensely rewarding".

Puppy walkers also attend the Kent Police kennel once a month for training classes, he added.

The force covers all food, equipment and veterinary costs.

I saw a piece on this in DT magazine this month, but looking at the website, it looks as though they have plenty of volunteers now

Many forces routinely use puppy walkers, every now and again they do a publicity drive as they run out of old ones.......

I would really struggle to give them back too. I fostered dogs and pups for the RSPCA for a while and struggled enough with that even though I deliberately only had them for a short space of time because I knew I'd get too attached!
