Stanley arrived to us after getting a lucky escape when he was deemed no good for the racing world. He is a beautiful brindle boy who turned 4 years old at the beginning of August.
Stanley came to us with a thick, dull coat of dead hair, but after several grooming sessions he is now a new hound! His beautiful brindle coat is starting to shine now and he looks so much better. He is 28” to the shoulder. Stanley has a sharp, perky expression and beautiful big eyes. And we just love his single sticky-up ear!
~ Personality ~
Generally: Beautifully calm, loving, undemanding and placid. Super affectionate and sensitive. In tune with his people. Balanced and extremely biddable.
Stanley is a real gent of a dog and is in every way your typical greyhound – excellently behaved, beautifully gentle and a total cuddle bug. He may appear a bit reserved at first, but give him a few minute to think about things and he will come up to you. He really enjoys getting a bit of fuss and attention and is learning now that if he asks for more fuss, he actually gets it. He is extremely biddable and quite sensitive, so will pick up quickly if you are angry or upset. He loves his food so will give you 300% attention if you have a tasty treat!
~ In the Home ~
Generally: Excellent in the home, obedient, quiet, undemanding, not destructive, ok to be left completely alone, love pigs ears!
Stanley has been in his foster home for a month now, and is doing superbly. He is settling in at a steady pace, and is SO well behaved. The perfect houseguest. He had a bout of diarrhoea upon arrival that we put down to the stresses of the upheaval, since Stanley had never been in a home before, and he is now back to normal and doing really well.
Stanley is one of those beautiful pooches who actively try to be good in every way. He is excellent to train and will always do what you ask when he understands what you are asking. He is a sensitive boy so is very attune to ‘his’ people. He doesn’t jump or countersurf, will go to bed when asked and will respond to the ‘wait’ command when out. He is used to being left alone when his foster parents go out, and is good as gold. He hasn’t started to play yet but does adore pigs ears, they are his new love in life! He really is just so incredibly grateful for little things like a soft bed and gentle head strokes. He’s a very beautiful dog and was born to be an excellent companion.
~ Other Animals ~
Generally: Excellent with all other dogs, calm & balanced, good companion, social and quiet.
Stanley is excellent with other dogs regardless of shape and size. Though he doesn’t share his foster home with any other animals, he was the perfect host when a little 4 month old puppy came to visit for a while, and though the puppy never left him alone, Stanley was quiet and gentle at all times. When out and about, Stanley is very happy to greet other dogs and after the hello sniff, is content to ignore them. If another dog grumbles at him, he just backs away. He is a fantastically balanced dog who would be a fabulous gentle and undemanding companion for another pooch, but can equally live a very happy life as an only dog provided he gets his daily quota of human love.
~ Out and About ~
Generally: Walks well, calm and placid, loves going on walks, not overly active, very good in car.
Stanley is a pure joy to take out and show the world to. He is excellent on the lead and only pulls if he sees a squirrel or cat, and even then is easily distracted and redirected. He is good with all the dogs he has met in his travels, and is very social, calm and balanced. He is fine for anyone and everyone to come up and give him some love.
Stanley is not an overly active pooch. He seems to be more focused on being able to relax all day in a comfy bed now than anything else. He is currently getting a 1hr walk every morning with a few 20min walks in the afternoon, and is very content with this amount of exercise. He does love being out and seeing the world, but loves his bed too! He is very good in the car, and can really go anywhere. Stanley can be let offlead in safe areas away from public roads and livestock once a decent amount of work has been put in to his recall training. This is a work in progress still as he has not been with his foster parents for very long. Recall training needs to be first tried at home, then in an enclosed outdoor area and be 100% in those places before trying him in an unenclosed area.
~ Greyhounds as Pets ~
In general greyhounds are very calm, mannerly dogs that are used to being handled. They can fit into a wide range of different lifestyles and usually adjust to the home life very quickly. Their soft, easy going nature often makes them ideal to live in a family with children, while their love of lazing around and low exercise requirements can make them perfect for the elderly.
~ Where Am I? ~
Stanley is currently in a foster home in Norfolk. He can be homed anywhere in the UK provided we have a homechecker available, but please note that you may be required to travel to meet and collect him.
