I tried this too, but if they don't squeak she's not interested in them at all.
I did go through a phase when she was recouperating from her cruciaate op of sewing squeakies into toys from charity shops, but it took me longer to do that than it did for her to get them out

You're so right - there are a lot of things that Hoki does that Stumpy is really unsure of.
Mind you, most of Stumpy's expression was because she was going into 'soppy doggy' mode (where she collapses in a heap upside down so that OH can tickle her tummy)
