Why are these almost always holiday lodges!?

Shame there aren't more properties like this where nature lovers can set up home:

I've only ever seen one private dwelling development like that around here, and the houses there (unsurprisingly!) very rarely come up for sale!

I guess if you bought a piece of land and had planning permission, you could buy one of those to put on it and live in?

Yeah I guess, but you'd need some sort of assurance people would build similar properties nearby.

Errr... why?
I'd be quite happy in my plot half a mile from the nearest neighbour... Otherwise I'd have a static caravan and live in that, or just buy a normal house in a normal road.

I often wish it was easier to do that in this country... doesn't seem to be a problem in the USA where you can buy pre-fabricated modular houses and put them on any bit of land you own.
