Hi Oh why you wouldnt need an alarm clock, what a shame I think cockerals are so funny, they march about looking very officious, chasing the hens, and they then jump on somewhere high and cock-a-doodle-do they shout, atthe convent we had one all differant colours really handsome, but if he could get into the kitchen, and stand on the draining board and shout, that was it he would try every surface, and if you tried to throw him out,he would get very aggressive he was a real character.crystalgirl

Phil - what incredibly beautiful hens - stunning girls It must be so wonderful for them to be out of the battery cages and seeing the dogs, sky, sun etc etc and feeling grass underfoot instead of those dreadful cage bottoms.

Well we've had 6 eggs so far yesterday and today from the 4 birds.

Think I'll be having a couple with soldiers for my breakfast.

Did you enjoy them the taste from fresh, is as I remember it pretty special, except when somebody feeds them something else, your eggs might get a differant taste, one year the hens had a go at the rhubarb, they were really yuck.crystalgirl

They were nice although their diet is fairly standard at the moment.

We used to get our milk from a local dairy. In the winter they put neeps out for the cattle.

Nothing like a cup a tea or a bowl of corn flakes first thing in the morning tasting of swede or turnip !
