Working-stock collies are usually as tough as old boots, in any way: you'd expect this, as their parents have probably worked their butts off in vile conditions for years.

A couple of years ago, I asked our vet nurse about hip-scoring. She didn't have the faintest idea what I was on about.

When I see this pup (if ever), I'll do my own hip-testing - by hand!

All the very best Snorri, hope some 4legged creature comes your way soon.
I wait with baited breath

How excitting Snorri, I really hope the wee one has you r name on him.....

If anyone knows about working stock BC pups from Orkney I am pretty sure its you.

Totaly agree with Moobli's post and yours about the pups not being planned etc etc and can just imagine the vet nurses face hip scoring!!! LOL possibly thought it was some form of tattooing

Good luck and keep us posted
Everything crossed here for you

I would also say that there is nothing wrong IMO from buying a collie pup from working stock, so long as you have a good home to offer the pup, as well as being able to meet the dog's mental and physical needs.
...so are you saying that pups from working stock don't need to be hip scored or eye tested etc ?

admittedly I can understand the lack of choice in a place like Orkney but I'm still surprised that this point has not been raised -

is'nt Dogsey supporting responsible dog breeding ?

I understand what your saying,

But.........I dont think any of the farmers with working collies on Orkney are on the forum,

which still leaves snorri with the prediciment of getting a dog,
He can take his pick of the best of whats there or do without,
I cant see snorri being dogless.... it would be a crying shame.

I think if you saw where Snorri lives (see his website) you will see that no-one actually breeds there, the mating, birth and survial are all in the lap of the gods.

Dogsey does support responsible breeding, but I think you'd be very hard pushed to do that on a small Island where only farm dogs/farmers are not breeders.

Best of luck Snorri

It's a shame we can't pm new members, bijou, you have a lot to learn. You have made me cross with your shabby treatment of a well respected member of Dogsey.

Red mist decending, I'm going for a cuppa.

...and this is OK ? - sorry but irresponsible breeding is just that - whether it's done in Orkney or some puppy farm in Wales
