we dont have the death penalty but i think we should what with dna evidence we have now if it is proved beyond doubt that somebody murdered somebody they should receive the death penalty as it costs a fortune to keep them in prison

My own thoughts are life should be life. However, it is not and therefore feel that if those who are handed life sentances are released after 15 years on licence which they are then this should be across the board. There are lifers who will stay in for life. I dont think you can have one rule for one and another rule for another as happens quite a lot in the uk

Many years ago I to believed that the death penality should be brought back until I watched a tv documentary, think it was called 14 days In may.

The young lad when to the gas chamber. The documentary finished two minutes before he went in. Since watching that program I have been against the death penality. There was a follow up about year two years later in which the lawyer proved that the convicted man was innocent. I know we have dna and all that but my heart says no to the death penality. I would rather have the convicted locked up for life.

The situation is that it has always been the rule of thumb that a life sentance you can be released after fifteen years on licence for life. That means you can be recalled at any time even though you may not have committed another crime. If you plead guilty at the outset then a third would be taken off. So technically speaking they are not reducing 15 years to ten. They are just making it more formal. Even if a lifer is released from prison after ten years they are on licence for the rest of their life and subject to supervision for life.

I still believe myself that if you receive a life sentance then you should not be released.
