Dobermann Puppy Starved to Death

Last Updated: Tuesday, 7 September, 2004, 05:41 GMT 06:41 UK

Appeal over starved dumped puppy

Welfare officials were forced to put the puppy down
Animal welfare officers are hunting a pet owner who dumped a starved puppy outside a restaurant in Garelochhead.
The dog had been so badly treated that it had to be put down by vets after a member of the public contacted the Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SSPCA).

Investigating officer Inspector Nicki Scott said a hunt was under way to find the person who had dumped the dog.

She said: "His organs were starved to the point where they were closing down"

The young male Doberman was found lying on a blanket outside the Green Kettle restaurant at Garelochhead by a passer-by.

Tail docked

The SSPCA believes that the puppy had been driven to the site by someone from outside the area.

Inspector Scott said: "The dog's had a docked tail and it's growth had been stunted due to starvation, but we believe he could have been between two to six months old.

Had he come to us even 48 hours earlier, we may have been able to save him

SSPCA

"The fact that the tail was docked indicates that a vet somewhere might have information for us."

She added: "A veterinary examination showed that the little dog had been starved to the point where his major organs were closing down and sadly, the decision had to be taken to put him to sleep.

"Had he come to us even 48 hours earlier, we may have been able to save him.

"There is no reason why anyone should have allowed this animal to suffer and, quite simply, we want to find the person responsible."

The person responsible for abandoning the puppy can be charged under the Protection of Animals (Scotland) Act 1912 and three sentences can be imposed simultaneously: a prison sentence not exceeding six months, a fine not exceeding £5,000 and, where appropriate, a life ban on keeping animals.

Inspector Scott said: "Anyone with information should call 0870 73 77722."

I hope that the person responsible for this rots in hell

so so sad. What has happened to the world? How do people like this live with themselves? What has happened in their lives that they find it acceptable to do this to an animal? I just don't understand.
