They'd still be my babies, regardless of whether they have breed faults or not

Im not too sure, not being in the breed, but i think people are passionate and stick firmly to the breed standard re colour, they frown over any colour thats not "normal"

The usual colouring for GSD's are black and tan. Whites, are still quite rare, and not recognised by the KC.

Most good GSD breeders will sell on pups that don't meet the breed standard as pets, I don't think I've known of any to PTS.

The one thing that I would like to see in GSDs is the straight backs. I hate seeing these low sloping backed dogs

The problem with selecting for a specific colour of GSD is that you immediately restrict the choice of parents for the litter and therefore have only a tiny portion of the gene pool to choose from. As the colours mentioned are not preferred there are far less of them to choose from in the first place...selecting for colour means you have to place less emphasis on temprement/health etc. Eventually this will lead to health/temprement problems in GSDs of this colour (for example D.B. Plummer bred White GSDs in the Midlands and had hip problems which he couldn't solve via out-crossing as there were no whites available to improve his lines).
A dog is no good if it looks pretty but is crippled by HD or a nervous wreck.
