DVD Recorder help

OK...I recently got a DVD recorder. Finally got it all set up and working ok. But one thing I can't work out When I put a blank disc in to record onto it asks me whether I want to format the disc as Video format or VR format, can anyone explain the difference as my manual doesn't. The discs I am using are DVD+RW
