Removing Foreign Objects in Paws

As I suspected, Jessie has something stuck in the soft skin between the pads of her front paw. I can feel a lump where it has swelled around it and can feel something in there, but it's not poking out so I cannot get any tweezers to it - it's fully embedded in her skin. I'm pretty sure it's a thorn as she was crashing through thick brambles on the day it happened.

So, as I dont really want to take her to the vets at this stage (though I obviously will if I cannot get it out myself) I was wondering what I could do to try and convince the thorn to evict itself?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

My mum also swears by bread poultis. She used to need to use it a lot with her Cairn terrier who had interdigital cysts. She swears it's brilliant for drawing things out.

I'd do a bread or bran poultice too, not too hot though remember! Easy enough place to get a nice dollop in there and wrap it up, hope it works.

it all depends on the dog as well , did this a hand full of times and it was 50/50.it was hard to get something hot on a paw let alone a paw/dog, that was in pain.

Thankfully, Jessie is fairly placid and just lies and lets me do whatever to her with minimal complaints so i'm lucky it's not one of the other 2 because they would be less obliging!

I'm going to Google poultices because i'm not sure how to make one.

Oooh poor pup, I can't offer anything helpful, but curious to see if the bread poultices work.

Keep us updated.

Couldnt master the poultice (opted for bred and milk as it was about the only ingredients we had in the house) so went for warm salty water instead.

However, she is off to the vets later for them to sort it out - they are better equipped than I am!
