How many of you have a dog gate?

And are they any good?

Just trying to think ahead really. We've never had one as the two we have now were rescues and easy enough to keep in the kitchen. But with the new pup on the way I'm concerned she may be allowed to run riot while I'm not there! (Honestly, sometimes I feel like the parent and my family are the kids! )

Anyway, the cat has her food in the hall and it's likely it'll get eaten be a certain someone at every available opportunity and I don't see why she should be relocated - she was here first. Plus my family are hopeless at remembering anything, so keeping a door shut will be nigh on impossible!

So who has one and are they any good?

I have a matching wrought iron bannister and gate at the bottom of the stairs but don't have a gate across doorways.

I did try one years ago but they just jumped over it, they could get over quicker than I could get it closed! I decide that it was a pointless exercise in the end.

Nowadays though there is a higher one, 37" high I believe. Reasonably priced from Argos.

Use a crate instead, useful for all sorts of things but mostly chewing with a new pup.

Yes we have two kiddy gates up at the moment. One at the top of the stairs and one between the kitchen and hallway. I've had no problems with them, except Roxy can almost jump them now

Yes we have the argos one and its briliant - its a lot higher than the babygates and its great for keeping Benji in the kitchen when nobody is in the house (which isn't very often - just when I go to school with Rhianna)

This is ours - with one very knackered dog behind it after his walk the other day

Just measured it - its 42 inches high and comes about 1/2 up the door frame.

I have 2 dog gates and I baby gate.
Mine don't attempt to escape past them so have never put the strength of them to the test.
I bought them before getting Sydney as a pup, but to be honest the only time they are in use is if I have all the doors open like today for air flow or if the front door is open and we are in and out all the time.
I do have crates for night time or when I'm out though.
