I wound is massive though. And I mean massive.

Molly is beside herself with excitement at all this chicken and liver business!

I hope we've made the right decision and that she has a settled night.
Nicola, that's truly amazing and demonstrates just how well you know your dog, I bet the vet will be impressed too

I've always said that if a dog is eating then that's a very good sign and I hope over the weekend she continues to eat and builds up to her normal size dinner. I think you have made the right decision. Well done.

She's getting lots of TLC, is eating and has a good vet on call so, for me, you made the right decision.

Surely, happiness and love go a long, long way on the road to recovery and she'll have plenty of both if mom has anything to do with it in the comfort of her own home.

Everything is firmly crossed here for Roxy xxx

Roxy is doing remarkably well and eating everything that she has been given today.

The vet said she may become very sleepy on Tramadol as it can be sedative like. Well, someone hasn't told her that as she's very bright tonight! She's some dog.

Wonderful news, and I am sure that the vet has made a good decision here.

With food and your care, I am sure that she will go from strength to strength. I hope that you both have a good night.

Roxy update...

10 days post op for Roxy and, like Molly, she's also doing very well.

Although the wound is massive, it's healing well apart from the black bit that was causing the vet some concern. As expected, it's starting to break away but it isn't any bigger so that's a good thing.

Went back for a wound check yesterday where the photographed it and measured it and were quite hopeful that it will heal on it's own, if it doesn't it may need 'attached' again, but we'll cross that bridge if and when we come to it. We're just taking it day by day just now.

Back next week for another wound check when she'll hopefully have the stitches and staples removed.

And, some more really good news.....

The tumour was LOW grade!

They used lots of medical jargon, as they do, but simplified it by saying that although it was quite a deep tumour, the cells did not multiply as quickly as the could've done which means it's low grade and not as aggressive as it could've been or would've been had it not been removed quicky. Even they are surprised, given how deep it was. According to them, MCT's can change dramatically and often very quickly and there is no set way in which they change.

Apparently the 1, 2 and 3 grading system for this type of cancer is not the best way to measure it now.

They also believe they got good margins (I should hope so, given the size of the wound!) and, at this moment in time, don't believe she will need radiotherapy or chemo which is amazing.

They did say that it could come back again, in that spot or any other areas.

Just now the main thing is wound management and getting it healed and after that, in about a month, we're back at Oncology. Apparently, there are other new treatments for after a MCTs have been removed, at least I think that's what he said but that's to be discussed with our oncologu vet. The one we saw yesterday was a soft tissue specialist.

Here's a picture of the wound on the night we got her home. Will post an updated one later.

Thanks for the update N - sounds like she's doing really well and as you say being the lowest grade cancer must be good news.

Sounds like she's got the best vet nurse in the world looking after her

That first photo had me 'looking away' as I'm a real wimp when it comes to such things but I can see in the second one how much things have improved, she's on the 'home straight' now I'm sure.
