That is often the best way, I know someone with several Gsds and she uses this method and all her dogs are quiet. She does reward them/praise them also for non reactive behaviour.

Works for me too, and that way they get to stay out there!

Amy does this quite a bit too, usually a cat is around somewhere, I just tend to bring her in if the barking gets incessant.

I use the water method sometimes too, mine hate water so i dont even have to spray it, just have it in my hand

That must be universal.

Enough is the the word that does it for us. The little squirt bottles are at all our trouble spots.

I just bring em in

Funny thing I was talking to a guy the other day who was mistified as to why his dog was missbehaving far more than usual the past couple of weeks

After a while he figured it out
When the dog was 'bad' he got a squirt of water - and as the weather has been major hot he realised that if he did something bad he got cooled down - clever thing!

Well if mine want to cool down they go in the paddling pool. In this weather there is no way I'm constantly bringing them in because the people next door allow their kids to screech and holler all day long. The back doors are open all day and they go out when they please, they just have to be aware there is a limit to the amount they can barkm even if kids seem to have no limits.
