Their are no bad students only bad teachers...

. would you say this is true among dogs and their trainers??

.We the owner are responsible for training the dog but we learn how from going to training classes, unless you have an idea of how to go about it any way.

. If a dog has bad habbits do they learn these from their owner?

. How you act yourself can have effects on the dog when you are out and about?? I ask because I hear about how dogs play off their owners emotions though I have found even when ive been confident and happy to meet other dogs Millie has often held back.

To an extent yes, but I don't totally agree.

A good teacher will bring out the best in a dog (just as with people), but what that 'best' is will vary from dog to dog according to their nature/personality.

As for feeding off your emotions, yes I do believe they do that, but again to a greater or lesser extent depending on the dog and the relationship between dog and owner.

A dog needs to trust their owners your judgement before they will be happy to accept that a situation isn't threatening. Some dogs are naturally more trusting than others.

An owner's job is to bring out the full potential of a dog to make him or her the best they can be.

A trainer's job is to teach the owner how to do that

All to do with partnerships

And you can`t teach anyone who doesn`t want to learn.
Or who isn`t ready to learn.
Some people come to classes wanting their existing ways to be applauded / confirmed, not to learn new things. Especially adults - which is why I stick to teaching youngsters.

I do not understand the term "bad"?

Dogs are constantly learning 24/7, they do what works.

Owners are often blissfully unaware of this and also cannot recognise potential problems UNTIL they become habits.

Experienced trainers can often say to owners "I would not let the dog do x if I were you as if you are not careful it could develop into y"

However many ignore the warnings...........

Dogs TEND to mirror their owners however, that is of course not necessarily true if the behaviour has been caused by a 3rd party or is rooted in a poor genetic background.

so as is often the case when discussing subjects like this, the answer is

IT DEPENDS........
