Friends Greyhound injured and retired.

My friends Greyhound has had to be retired, he pulled up suddenly on his last race, and although appeared only a little lame, an x-ray the following morning showed a slight fractured hock. Thankfully he is making a super recovery at my friends home, where he will live the rest of his life as a pampered pooch!

He won 23 races, 3 at A2 grade, 14 A1 grade and 6 open races, a fantastic dog.
Dawn.

Awww, so glad he's going to enjoy a happy and restful retirement!

I see so many local ads (as we have a big racetrack here in Sheffield) for people selling retired greyhounds it's nice to hear of someone actually taking responsibility!

wishing him a speedy recovery!

Hi Dawn

I too am so pleased to hear of a retired racing greyhound with an owner who is prepared to pamper the dog and look after it in its retirement. Nice for once to have a good outcome for this much maligned breed.

What a good outcome, and he can look back on his victories as he dozes by the fire.... I have friends with retired greyhounds and apparently they are lazy lumps!
Good luck to him

PS The kennel owner where my dogs go during my working days has just acquired a greyhound puppy, seen by the breeders to have zero potential as a racer so a "cast off". He is absolutely adorable, Polo is enchanted and even shared his Bonio! (Normally he would have anyone's head off if he thought they were after his food!) Deccy wagged his tail when he greeted me tonight and the poor puppy was wacked in the face by it! he'll learn!

What a lovely story Dawn. You hear so many horror stories of greyhounds that can no longer race due to injury or old age, it's really nice to hear of a happy ending

How nice to hear about a happy ending for a racing greyhound. He sounds a very special boy indeed. Hope he recovers quickly.
