Hi didnt see the programme, but love your dog, there isnt much wolf in it,I believe in the states, they crossed a wolf with normal domestic dog,and seeing the pictures,it had a larger head and more shaggy, but yours are as they should be,I think they are stunning, was it difficult to get the gene pool here or did you have to go further afield.Gemini54

These are English bred dogs started in the late 80's early '90's initially by a lady who was passionate about wolves and wanted a dog that looked like a wolf and acted like a dog.

They did indeed, but there are those who can't miss any opportunity to have a dig. So I ignored it

Well I only said it because so many have digs at the moment about people joining with cross breeds and their designer crosses. I thought we were a forum for all dogs but some comments recently have made me wonder. I personally love crosses our lovely retriever collie cross would not be quite so lovely if she were one or the other IMO her appeal comes from her mixture of breeds coming together to make a unique dog.

As the founder dogs of the Utonagan began nearly 40 years ago, then I don't exactly think of them as 'designer' dogs.
We are stricter and more stringent than the KC will ever be when it comes to breeding, mandatory health checks, and homing them, so hardly a case of slapping 2 dogs together and calling them whatever is fashionable at the time, and then selling them to whoever is first with the money.
I nearly fell off the couch when those 'hybrids' came on, because they look identical to what I have been breeding for a few years. Also there are very strict rules governing hybrids and anything less than an F4 is not supposed to be allowed offlead at all. These dogs were allegedly 50-50, so I am doubtful about their true ancestry. May be totally wrong here, and if so I will apologise.
