When they see me in my walking jacket, any other jacket and they go to bed.

shoes on, but specific ones !!! and if i put make up on he knows he isnt coming!!!

Well i'm very lazy so rare things such as:
putting shoes on
picking her leads up (even if i'm just moving them)
putting my coat on any time after 9am
and the word walkies

Tilly knows that too if I put my make up on she knows I'm going to work - however if it's a tracksuit & mad mary style hair she knows she is going out

Mine take the cue from my ever so clever Otis who knows when I'm thinking of taking them for a walk!!
All 5 then run up the stairs and get wedged at the top!! Even if I try to disguise it so as not to cause a frenzy, Otis knows!!

When i get out of bed or when i get changed into my dog walking jeans

he wasnt impressed today coz i nipped to shops before walking him, and he was so miffed and tried to follow me!

The time of day is usually enough although getting up and going to the back door tends to confirm it - I get followed everywhere anyway just in case they miss something!

I have a specific dog walking coat so when I walk into the kitchen either holding it or wearing it they know they are going out.

Generally if i pick up her collar and leash (which usually stay attached as she doesn't wear her collar in the house) she'll recognize that as walk time.

But usually she either knows because (1) she's asked for the walk (she comes over, sits up very straight in front of you and when you meet her eyes, she puts her paw on you -- that's her signal that she's ready to go for a walk) or (2) I've said the magic word!
