What to expect after cruciate op ???

My 4year old speyed dog had her cruciate fixed 3weeks ago. It was fixed by using muscle and sutures, I have started taking her 5 min walks and she had her first session back at hydro yesterday. When at hydro we measured her muscle and her right is. 17 in diameter and left 13.5 she will use the poorly leg a little. My question is what should I be now doing to help her and what improvements should I b seeing as I think at the min im being very cautious and expecting to much Many thanks

If it was only 3 weeks ago, I think you probably are expecting too much. What has your vet said about the amount of exercise she can have?

I can't remember exactly now, but I remember going back to the vets several times and he would watch her walking up and down the street. When he thought her movement was fine, he would let us increase her excerise and eventually allow her off lead - I think it was about 8 weeks.

I'd say it is definitely better to be cautious, but that when the vet/hydrotherapist tells you its time, you have to start letting her run. For me, that was the most scariest
bit of all.

Thanks for your reply the vet says I can walk her on 5 min walks at the min but I had to ask if that was ok the vets were not that informative. But saying that I have had to keep going back since Xmas as they kept telling me there was nothing wrong she just needed to loose weight

oh, no wonder you're not that confident in relying on your vets advice.

I would just build up the exercise slowly, watching for how she gets on.
