I also should have mentioned about the Kodak 6490, because of its SLR capabilities it can take pics indoors without using the flash. Stops getting redeye on doggie pics - which is all I seem to take, or cats!!

I love it, its so easy to use and it wasn't that expensive

Where the number of pixels comes into consideration is when you start editing digi pics - the more pixels you have, the farther you can "crop" the pic and retain sufficient detail in the shot

I use both digi and film SLR.

The digi is a Kodak EasyShare CX7430, got it about 2 1/2 months ago, 4 MP (effective). The SLR is an ageing Pentax P50 with various lenses up to 500mm (CAT), and we have a Pentax Program A, which uses the same lenses as the P50.

I prefer the SLR, as it has far more flexibility, but it is very heavy when all the kit is there; at least the digicam will attach to my belt and can be taken everywhere, for "grab shots".

As to the doggies, they get at least one annual "formal portrait" pic, using the SLR, but I use the digi for pics of them playing, etc.

Oh yes, and the digicam shoots movies, too - they're OK, not brilliant, but then, it's not the camera's primary function.

Just as well, you're going to need it for pics of all the BCs at the Kirkwall DTS show - it looks like being the biggest Border Collie Herd for a long time!

"Herd" Not sure if that's the right word. I think that the right word for a group of BCs is a "crash", after all, that's what they do!

When you feel ready, try HERE

Pricerunner can save you quite a lot on a digicam.

I bought my Kodak via the Pricerunner site, and saved about £40-50 on it by buying it from a site called Pixmania.com

Kodak CX 7430, 4 megapixel, 256 MB SD memory card (optional extra), case cost £152 inc P&P. The lens is a Kodak Retinar Aspheric all-glass, which seems to do a good enough job, and the whole shebang is about the size of a fag packet.

Sample pic......

Now, that's not too shabby, is it - and no doctoring with Photoshop 7, either!
