Bathing greyhounds????

Hi Folks,

Does anone out there bath their greayhound? I'm a bit unsure as to how to go about it, whether to put them in the shower or hose them down???

Any advice is welcome..Thanks

I would rub them down with a soapy towel then tip a bucket of warm water over to remove the soap and finish off with a shammy.

Take it they are smelly or have been rolling other wise a rub over with a damp shammy and polish with a dry cotton cloth.

For our "half Greyhound"! at this time of year we have a bowl of water on the floor and put one foot at a time in, wash down each leg, under the tummy etc then dry off with a towel. We haven't got a bath and the bathroom isn't big enough to do her in the shower.
In the summer we shower her in the garden with several watering cans of warm water and doggie shampoo.
Good luck!

If you have a shower cubicle big enough, or a bath with a shower head, I'd do them in that. That way you can not only get the coat clean but also ensure any shampoo is totally rinsed out. Make sure you really towel-dry them afterwards. I certainly wouldn't be hosing down a sighthound with a fine coat in this weather! Mine would have a fit if I did that in the summer let alone in the winter!

Actually unless absolutely necessary I wouldnt bath a greyhound as they can have a tendancy to faint especially if water is to warm and brings about a drop in blood pressure. They do tend also to feel the cold. I would advise if they do need bathing a flannel with some warm water nothing to 'shocking' to the system.

Its very rare that they actually need bathing as they are usually very clean dogs, of course there is the ermmm fox scenario but even then I would be using the ketchup and flannel method

Hi all thanks for the advice, cant believe my OH even thought about hosing them! poor mites! like i'd ever let him do that!
The only reason we were thinking about bathing was because Phil keeps peeing on his front paw accidentally!! Bless! I think a warm flannel is in order then.
They are not allowed upstairs as that is where our guinea pigs live so the bathroom is kind of out of bounds anyway... We were thinking maybe taking them to a specialist groomer or getting one of those mobile groomers in. Not sure i'd want to risk it after what you have said spot!
Thanks again
