Oh well done to Bertie there! You never know, something might have happened the last time, he might well have grown up a bit or learned something along the way from the other dogs. Let's hope it continues like this with Bertie Nothing to report here, except no punch ups of late, so all is still on the up!

just a mini sucess here yesterday - two good recalls. Cain's recall is fairly good when we're alone but due to his behaviour, he's never been off lead around distractions....but I'm fairly sure i wouldn't see him for dust!!!

Last night we were in the one park I can let him off lead in. We did our normal on lead lap with a torch just to check the park really is empty. We walked back towards the gate (I hang out near there so I can spot people coming in) but because it was late and dark I relaxed and unclipped his lead before I was back at the gate properly. As soon as I did it I heard a clang like the gate and Cain went dashing in that direction. I panicked and called "CAIN!!!!"..... not the proper recall command. But he did a slick U turn and ran right back to my side and I got him on lead By this point I could see the gate and there was no one there, bit of a mystery, but I was happy he came back.

Then walking home through a different non secure park, I had him on the extended flexi lead. There is a fairly busy road running through the park (we were walking far enough away on the grass that he couldn't reach it on lead) and a field on the other side of the road with cows in which get Cain really hyped. Anyway he ran to the end of his lead then suddenly ping!!! He kept going and the extending lead came back at me and he was free running in public near a road and cows!!!! Again I called him "CAIN!!!!!!" and again he came straight back both times I was too shaken to remember to reward him properly except for a belated fuss....I'm an idiot. I thought the lead had snapped but what i'd done was accidently in the dark, when switch from hid halti to his collar, I'd clipped it on to his ID tag ring instead of the proper ring. Poor little split ring could stand up to 45kg of Cain!

Anyway, while I suspect his recall would have been far from reliable if he'd seen another dog, I'm still delighted he came back twice yesterday when it really mattered

I am taking him to a GSD socialisation walk on Sunday....eeeep! I'll let you know how it goes.

Well for us Tess being a slow starter

Has now mastered the art of not pooing and weeing in the kitchen when Im out of sight
And she can now count to ten
Plus she let a child taje a bone from her mouth (not a planned training excerise)

Well done with Cain, I know what you mean sometimes they supprise you so much it takes a mo to realise how much fuss they deserve.

Wow, now that IS good for Cain, he deserves some extra Brownie points today that's for sure! It could have been scarey if he didn't come back with that road nearby, and in the dark, you must be soooo proud of him!

I walked with a friend with a little jr this morning, we were in a huge big field half way round, both offlead, then Zena spotted a collie chasing after a ball thrown with a chuckitt and she has such a thing about those bladdy chuckits!!! Anyhoo, off she raced at 90mph I called her nuffink (that's a first!!!), I called again, she was half way between it and us, but she stopped dead, turned around and raced back to me The woman I was with was most impressed, but I said I wasn't so happy she ignored me first time, BUT, all said and done, her obsession with the chuckett caused that! She ignored it afterwards, and she also ignored all the other dogs, even though she was offlead, except for a little lab puppy coz she adores those and just had to say hello coz he came to show her his stick he had in his gob!

They are taught to count by foot tapping out on hand.

Bruce can count upto 30 now, all I do is hold a treat....show them what number by holding up my fingers

ie ....10 fingers (or whatever number)....they tap out 10 foot taps on my hand...they get thier treat

Stevie thats very clever I don't think Bertie would get that just bash me with a paw.

You'd be surprised how easy they pick it up, I once told esmed to try with Monty, and he can do it now too.
Its a way of them using thier brain, gives them some mental stimulation Its good for Tess it makes her 'think'

It's great to read everyones achievements

I just wanted to say how well behaved Ted has been today, his recall was brilliant this morning and came back when i whistled straight away even when there was a couple of dogs ahead. Then we passed two greyhouds and two spaniels and although he was interested no lunging or grumbling, probably helped that they ignored him.

Then this afternoon we met a young beagle who came over to say hello despite the owners efforts to get him back. I had Ted's lead short incase he lunged at it but he was fine while we waited for the owner to collect the beagle they had a little sniff. Only for it to come running back past us in a loop but Ted just wagged his tail. Then just as we where leaving the field a bloke came on with a black lab who came flying over to us hackles up putting his head over Teds back. I thought Ted would kick off at this but we carried on walking (well i did, Ted was dragged) and just tried to stay calm and saying come on lets go to him and he was fine he did have a little growl when the other dog finally went back to his owner. I'm so pleased with him and hope it continues
