Cypriot Poodle Soup!

With one little Bella floating in it lol! Now if I get out earlyish on a Sunday I'm almost guaranteed of a nice quiet walk. However today by about 8am half the blokes in the area were out on the field with their dogs it seems (no Zorro though - bit early for him) it's because it's still hot here and the later you leave it the hotter it gets. ALL the dogs we met today are dogs she has either known all her life or dogs that have been born to dogs she's known all her life.

This old chap is walking 3 while their owner is away so kept them all on lead all the time as he was worried they'd run off.

Andonis trying to gather his 4 (or is it 5?) up again to get them in the car (he always ends up driving slowly off without one or two and they catch him up and he leans round opens the door and in they jump and off he goes. Sometimes other dogs jump in with his and he reverses back up to let them out! The only dog out of all these dogs with good recall is Bella and she is 'famous' for it (makes me so proud of her!)

Bella saying Hello to Adam & Julie (his 2nd wife) they are mum and dad to 3 or 4 of the other dogs here - 2 of them still with them. Adam is the Casanova of Larnaka

Joined by Mara (on the left) dog next door to us and great pal of Bella's but they wait until we get back to 'go crazy' together

Kissy kissy for Mara

Mara's owner, Relou, making a fuss of Bella

Some of them venturing onto the cut field but Bella will stop at the edge - she doesn't 'run off' anywhere these days - stands back and looks at me as if to say 'I'm a good girl aren't I?' lol!

Time to go home ... we walked back with Mara

Yes she is the lone carrot floating in that assorted cypriot poodle soup!

She's the friendliest little soul to all dogs and people. And to be honest almost ALL dogs here are friendly too whether they are pampered or just street dogs or kept in their yards. That's why I get so upset when you get just one or two odd ones who are aggressive and whose owners are just full of excuses (I call it BS) about why and waddever. If they can't be trusted round other dogs KEEP THEM ON THEIR BLERDY LEADS! We were all chatting this morning about what a shame it is that Russian Olga no longer comes there with Heidi since the same GSD who 'had' Bella went for old Heidi. And how many more dogs there used to be a few years ago (honestly there were at least 20 every day on this walk). More people seem to be just keeping them in their flats and out on verandahs (which of course means more dogs barking!)

You can see from these pics that the usual Cypriot way is to just drop the lead to let the dogs run around - I unclip Bella's. But a few years ago NONE of these dogs were ever on leads. Some people ask me WHY Bella is on a lead when we are walking on the roads. They really don't understand it. Then Adam's first wife was killed by a car and now Andonis (who was broken hearted) has leads on them all even if some are just bits of rope. Mara didn't even have a lead until I got her a smart red one with matching collar. Her mum uses it but Relou doesn't but at least carries one with him. But then it was Relou waiting patiently for Mara to catch us up while Bella walked to heel on the way home! And Relou jumping out waving at cars while he scooped her out of the way while Bella just returns to me instantly with a quick 'THISWAY' from me.

I'm sure it's good for all the dogs to mix like this. Adam the lothario gets a bit 'bolshy' with new male dogs at first and Mara can be a bit bossy with new bitches but they all settle down. This is actually a fantastic bunch of dogs for anyone to use to get their new dogs socialised.

There are others who come over there but these, along with Bella are the 'all weather' and 'all year' ones.

That is some soup Lovely to see them all getting on.
I was going to remark on Bella being the odd one out, are there any other colours than white in Cyprus?
Looks as if poor Mara can't even pee in peace

The comment that Bella "is the lone carrot floating in that assorted cypriot poodle soup!" really made me smile!

Lovely photos of Bella mingling amongst all the other dogs! How I wish mine could do the same over here, but I can't because the local dogs, with a couple of exceptions, are such an unfriendly lot for whom Chloe would just be a tasty snack.

And Tang .. my son and his family lived in Larnaka marina for 2 years whilst he was building his yacht. My grandaughter went to play school there and was the only one who spoke Greek which she's now totally forgotten as she was only three at the time.
