Mint!!!

http://www.linuxmint.com/

I just had a quick try of the above OS, from a DVD that came with the August edition of the Linux Format magazine and I have to say it looks gorgeous! I have heard about it before and it's got a pretty good reputation as a replacement for Windows.

Anyone who's bored already with all the problems associated with living with a Windows PC might want to give it a go. Just from a very quick look at a live CD it's my hot recommendation at the moment!

I notice browsing round that site that they seem to have thought it out reasonably well. There's a screenshot of what is presumably the default favourites on clicking the 'start' button and they've got Amarok (Absolute KILLER music player!), instant messaging and web browser right there! Pretty much spot on for the target user.

I'm using a KDE4 based distribution (Not HML! DanumLinux...) at the moment. It looks VERY slick and performs a hell of a lot faster than Vista on the same machine, despite being installed on an external hard drive and not on the internal one. I am so glad I tried Linux out of curiosity however long ago it was now.
