Old dog films

Back in the mists of time (well probably in either the late 1970s or early 1980s) I can vaguely remember watching a film on TV (probably Disney) which featured a GSD.

I can only remember the ending of the film. The dog had clearly belonged to an old couple and must have been lost/stolen because he ended up with a young family. At the end, the original owners must have found the dog and it was decided that the dog should make his own mind up about which home to stay with. The dog was left in one place and the old couple walked away one way calling him and the family doing the same in the other direction. I can't remember who the dog chose, or what it was called.

Does this ring any bells with anyone else?

I always watched any dog/animal film that came on when I was a kid, and so this was just one of many - but I would love to remember what it was called and see it again if possible (although it would probably be a big disappointment - a bit like The Littlest Hobo )

No, can't help you sorry - and from the sound of it would definitely not be watching it. Sobbing always gives me a bad head! on the other hand it's intriguing to wonder who the GSD actually chose??? bet it was the old couple?? waits with bated breath for more posts in fact might even go and google something to see if I can find it. Must get out more me thinks.
