rules No act or operation which alters the natural conformation of a dog or anypart thereof may be preformed except:

(b) The removal of dewclaws in any breed.
(c) Operations to prevent breeding provided that such operations are notified to the Kennel Club before neutered dogs are shown.
Nor must any be done calculated in the opinion of the General Committee to deceive.

For a unknown dog pup to compete at championship level , and be place above intact males will still be very few on the ground.

On the other hand a dog that has already been shown , and does well , then has to be castrated for a medical reason, it will have more of a chance of still being placed.

Companion shows may be different, it will all depend on the judge , and how serious they take it.

But nothing stopping you showing a castrated pup/dog at championship level, as long as you are aware ,why you are being overlooked..

But never say never, its all about the fun, or its supposed to be!!

Spayed bitches on the other hand, are a lot earier to hide

depends on the coat. Certain types of coat can be altered by spaying. I guess you could get away with it on a boxer though!

Yep true, but harder to hide in a short coated breed

You couldnt show a castrated welshie, they go all wooly and sometimes the coats even change colour.

Now of a bitch in our breed who was spayed at about 13 months with pyometra & went on to become a champion. All above board with the KC & notifying, but the judges didn't know.

With bitches it wouldn't, not so with males though as it is obvious. Wasn't there a well known Sheltie that won very well who was spayed?

The rules regarding showing neutered dogs & bitches changed in the 1970s, my Champion bitch had to be spayed on medical grounds without having puppies & got made up after she had been spayed. They changed again in the 1980s to allow any neutered dog/bitch to be shown regardless of having had puppies or on medical grounds as long as the KC have been informed.
