oh dear

One of my young female rats escaped (the rats are in huge cages in my shed)about a week ago ,she was loose for a couple of days before I was able to catch her again and yesterday when I was cleaning them out she felt thicker ,so I think she might be pregnant to a wild rat
I have kept rats for over 10 years and have had a few wild rats before ,when one of the cats killed their mum ,I hand raised the babies ,so I know what I will get if she is pregnant ,just I will have lots of cross babies looking for homes
argh I will have domestic/wild rat babies ,gorgeous and special ,but I will need to find homes for them as I cant give them the time they need with Kira,Benji and all the ducks ,chickens ,ferret ,cats ,guinea-pigs ,rabbit etc.
I really hope she isnt pregnant but I think she is

Do the wild crosses make good pets?

they will make good pets but will always be more nervous than domestic rats ,the wild rats I had before would be terrified if anyone but me tried to handle them and were always trying to escape ,crosses wont be as bad as that ,and if they take after their mum they should be fine
I just hope she isnt pregnant ,its still a bit early to tell but she is looking a little fatter than the other girls

Just a thought (and don't batter me if it's not a thought you like) but is there a rat 'morning after' injection you could get from the vet?

I know there is a dog one.

I have never heard of one for a rat ,if there was I imagine it would be risky as they are so small ,plus if she is pregnant she must be at least a week gone ,I'll just have to hope she isnt pregnant but if she is I'll be able to keep them as long as it takes to find them good homes at least they dont take up as much room as a litter of puppies

good luck with it - as you say it will be hard and I cannot help you take them on I'm afraid - however - it may profit you visiting [Admin Edit: no links to other forums] and seeing if there's any info on there that may be some help? Also there's a rehoming board - so when these little uns (if there are any) become old enough, you will be able to rehome them to only the best - knowledgable people
