Sick & tired of the fighting!!!!!

My two ( Standard Yorkshire Terrier & Pug x Beagle)

Little Molly (Yorkie) is sooo annoyed with Mindy(10 months old|) . Mindy just wants to play all the time, and Molly (10 years old) is soooo fed up of her!!!!!

I have bought them Kong toys, bones, balls etc, but Molly is having none of it....

What can I do to integrate them ? Surely there is something?

They play in the garden okay, but in the house, Molly is a little Cow!!!!!!

Can you explain a little more what is happening?

does the older dog go for the young one all the time
Does she put up with the pup bouncing all over her for any length of time?
Does she give any warnings that she isnt happy before she goes for the other dog?
What kind of fights? air snaps, noise, making contact? How do you seperate them?
Have you had her checked at the vets?
Has it always been the same or is it getting worse?
does your older dog get any time alone from the pup?

Mindy, just wants to play all the time.

She is in the third week of her season.

Molly generally gets on well with other dogs. We adopted Mindy 10 weeks ago. They are okay when we are playing with them (but you cannot do that all the day).

Little Molly has had sooo much of her!! She will play with her, but when Mindy starts sniffing her private parts and grabbing on to her back end, thats when she starts getting nasty (never seen that before from Molly)

Any middle aged female is not going to be happy about an ill mannered teenage lout jumping all over her, IMO.
I would provide the older dog with a calm place she can get away from the youngster when she needs to,.
You might also want to check that the older dog isn`t starting to get arthritic? Joint supplements can help if she is.

as ever agree with C and D

I would also not let the pup be over sniffing and jumping on her back end
You know she dosent like it, the pup isnt taking the hint so every time she starts heading that way distract her and call her away

give them both time appart

and take things slowly anyways - they are really still just getting to know each other, both their lives have changed dramatically

But stop the fights, jump in before they can happen

Thanks Claire

Molly is fed up of it... & I do give her her quiet space, But when they are out with their kongs, she is like a 12 month old pup!!!!

We do give her her own space, but the pup is so strong minded......

its a mad house at the minute.......

Just taking Molly for some quiet space... See you in a bit...

I have two boys one is 2 the other is 11. what you are describing is exactly the problems I was having when I got buster (2) at 1 1/2 ago.

They would scrap and it was always coles (11) growling. At first I was blaming the older dog for starting trouble but it transpired on observation that it was Buster starting it off because he had no manners. With time their relationship has improved, albeit they dont play together but Buster has learnt over time that Coles is just not interested in playing.

TBH 10 weeks isnt that long for two dogs to get to know each other. it took my dogs 6 months before they were getting along but every dog is an individual and it may not take that long.

I think also the age gap comes into to it, you have one dog who has been there done that and the other (Mindy) thinking how new and exciting everythig is.

With time things should improve. Hope this helps

ETA As others have side give the older dog some quiet time and when they are together, supervise and correct behaviour if you have to.

Thanks for all your support.

Sorry that I haven't replied, my laptop decided to go into melt down!!

I have taken all your advice on board, and it seems to be working.

Claire, you are right, Mindy is behaving like a teenage lout!! Molly is a little mummy's girl and behaves impeccably!!

I am hoping that Mindy settles down a little bit once she has been neutered.

As time goes by, you forget how a pup behaves, don't you?
