But anyway, back to the article. I think we have reached the point where we are too positive. I think it's about balance. I for one wont hesitate to chastise my dog...Some people are reluctant to even take their dog by the collar for fear of it being seen negatively.
Totally agree with this, without the dark we would not have the light!

I doubt there's many trainers out there who never say 'no', or its equivalent (ah-ah).

Where I draw the line is throwing water in a dog's face, pinning it down, rattle bottles and the likes - just so unnecessary

To be fair I don't think the article is condoning such things?

Not being 100% positive doesn't always have to be aggressively negative.

It is impossible to be 100% positive in dog training, anyone claiming that their are "purely positive" is either untruthful or misunderstands the term.

You're absolutely right, but that doesn't stop some claiming they are, or even setting up an entire franchise on that claim.

Great idea---but there is one person there that I know is pretty hard on the dogs and I wouldn't want to say no in that way.

Having said that no one is going to agree with everyone and nothing in life is perfect!

The article is vague on what it means as is the Guild's website. Whilst I don't think SB uses such techniques, she's not the only member of the Guild

No has always been part of my vocabulary and always will be. I have found over here trainers are much harder on their dogs than in the UK, not much reward based stuff (its only the english in the calsses that have pockets full of treats) but most of the trainers that I have come across have been firm with dogs but not bully tactics, and there is a lot of use of the NON when the dogs do something wrong but praise when right.
